Compliments of the Season To You!

My Dad always greeted people with this, during the week between Christmas and New Years.

It's not one nor the other but it is part of the silly season….

It was lovely to kick back and have a couple of days with family, and now we turn our thoughts to the New Year.

I never used to understand the big deal of a "New Year", but as I've aged it's become more of a thing.

Setting goals for the time ahead, and recognising what we have achieved in the year just been. It's also a special time too for families and friends, especially, in the Kiwi Summer to have adventures together.

As our kids grew up, January at the lake in Mangakino, often saw us adopt backpackers from other countries, who had stopped for the night beside the lake. Our golden lab thinking their food smelt just fine would make friends. Although the travellers, in fact, looked like they needed a good kiwi meal, shower or washing machine. Abby dog choose lovely people, and I’d end up asking if they needed a real shower, or to do some washing. If they were easily sorted with this, the kids would often say, “do you want to come out on the boat with us tomorrow, the more the better” sometimes said travellers ended up staying months with us, or coming and going from our place as a kiwi base.

To this day we have communications with these “adopted” traveler’s, and maintain some of the traditions we did with them staying. It's always at this time we hear from them, and think about where they are now.

Roll on New Years, and let's see what adventures 2024 will bring for us all.
